Nailed it! (or not...)

So, it's summer (apparently).   For a lot of us, this is the time to kick  out the dull colours of the winter and spice ourselves up with a bit of colour.  I personally go out and buy brightly coloured clothes, but, alas, it is that time of the year where my student loan is dwindling to the point of non-existent and such luxuries seem like a distant memory. But I have noticed over the last couple of years, that people are injecting that summer feeling into their everyday look in an alternative and more practical (well in some cases) way, which won’t leave them shivering by 7pm because it was so warm when they left the house, they just had to bust out that brand new dress and a jacket would just ruin the whole effect. We’ve all been there, that sudden downpour we hadn’t prepared for, that chilly breeze that stays the night, the ups and downs of the ‘Great British Summer’ that we never learn from. But I digress. I’m talking about Summer nails (of course!).

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never been one to bother with my nails. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have fabulously flawless nails each and everyday but I’m a biter. Disgusting I know, but it does mean I never have enough nail to create a remotely neat/attractive design. I have a wobbly hand and can’t be bothered to go out and buy the right tools. But it seems nail art is becoming more and more of a must. I did have a bash last year but it wasn’t a great success. So many hours of concentration and effort, just to cock it all up on the last nail.

But for you bravehearts/ much more capable human beings, here are my top 5 summer nail design:

All images sourced from Google

1. Rainbows- cute, colourful and glittery. It doesn't get much more summery than that!
2. Watermelon tips- a classic for the summer, a flash of colour without being too much plus that added sprinkle of glitter make these so pretty for summer.
3. Rainbow gradient- probably my personal favourite. The pastel shades are perfect and again the sprinkle of fairy dust sets the whole look off.
4. Roses- so cute, so vintage and they're pink. Need I say no more.
5. Aztec- a trend that has become a key part of every summer collection for the last 3 years or so. Pretty fiddly but looks so good!

I am going to make an (almost) new academic years resolution to take more care of my nails and see how long I can get them to grow and then I promise to try out a couple of these and show you guys the results, providing they aren't too embarrassingly terrible.

If you want to find someone who really knows what they are on about, my friends blog is http://iartnails.blogspot.co.uk/ . She knows lots about nail art, much more than me.

Although, until I have relatively normal length nails and considering the ridiculous temperatures, I shall be embracing that summertime feeling by keeping to these simple shades before I risk a pattern:

What do you guys think of my top 5? Have you got a hidden talent for nail art? Any tips/tools to recommend for an artistically challenged person like me?

Have a beautiful day!
