Popping my Essie Cherry

Good morning my lovelies!

Okay. I admit it. I have only just, after almost a year of blogging and a life long love of nail varnish, purchased my first Essie Nail Laquer.

It's taken me so long for a number of reasons. But predominantly, I am a cheap skate. I don't like spending more than about £4 on a nail varnish because I have so many and Essie's are £7.99. But the other day I just fancied a change and the Essie counter was calling out to me and I was feeling very reckless and spontaneous and thought it was high time I owned one. Afterall, it seems one cannot call oneself a beauty blogger without an Essie lurking in their collection.

Anyway, after a good 20 minutes of umming and ahhing over which colour to choose, I eventually selected "Mint Candy Apple", a really lovely fresh mint green colour, which I thought might lift those winter blues and cheer me up when I have to waddle to work in the rain at 6:30 in the morning, and it will work beautifully when/if summer decides to show it's face this year.

I know there is a lot of hype surrounding Essie. And sometimes, when you are counting the pennies, part of you just hopes that a slightly more expensive, over hyped product gets a slightly negative review, so I did look for any and every possible flaw with this product so I could give you an honest "is it really worth it " review.

The answer is: once in a while, yeah. The polish glides onto the nail easily with the perfect shaped brush. None of this 3 stroke nonsense, it took me 2 strokes maximum to cover a nail, with no leaking onto my finger. The colour is pretty opaque, but for the colour I chose, I did still need to do 2 coats, but they do dry super quick, so it kinda cancels it out. It has such a glossy finish that I don't even think it really needs a top coat for anything other than an extra layer of chip-proofing. Honestly, I don't think it is any more chip resistant than the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine polishes, which are my favourites!

Overall, they are pretty damn good. But they are £7.99 and they aren't heaps better than cheaper polishes. If you fancy a treat, go for it! The colour range is second to none and they are gonna last a pretty long time. I would consider buying another in the future, but I doubt it will be a weekly occurrence.

What do you think of Essie?
